May is Hamburger & Hot Wing Month On Havana Street!

When?  May 1-31, 2012 at over 20 restaurants On Havana Street (listed below)

What?  Enjoy hamburgers and hot wings during the month.  Take advantage of special offers.  Enter the in-restaurant drawing and on-line Facebook "Like Us" campaign to win prizes.  Watch for the special discount coupon section coming out in the Aurora Sentinel, Anchutz Life Sciences Newspaper and the Buckley Guardian on April 26.  Coupon offers are good throughout the month at the participating restaurants.

Enter The Hot Wings Eating Contest & Win $100 Cash:   Friday, May 18, 7 p.m. at Gibby's Sports Bar, 1555 So Havana ST, which is located in the Buckingham Village Shopping Center just south of Florida on the west side of Havana.   The winner gets $100 cash!  (No purchase necessary to win)  Registration opens at 7 p.m. at Gibby's and is open to the first 10 people registering.  You must be 21 years of age to enter and will be required to sign a waiver.  Each contestant will get 8 wings (1 lb) to eat, and the contestant who finishes eating all 8 wings first wins the $100 prize.  Bring your friends to cheer you on to victory!  Gibby's will be offering drink specials throughout the evening.  Copies of the official rules will be available at Gibby's.

From May 1-31, enter the drawing at the participating restaurants for a chance to win:

Bring your lawn chair and picnic or take-out dinner and join us in the Rose Garden for the first concert of our 2011 summer concert series. The Maynard Mills Blues Band will be performing live from 6-8 p.m. in the garden. 

Mr. Mills has been playing the blues scene in Denver for over 30 years. He grew up in Gary, Indiana, idolizing the bitter sweet blues of groups like Muddy Waters, Albert King, Lightening Hopkins, B.B. King and Buddy Guy. The musicians in the Maynard Mills Blues band share the same passion of carrying on the tradition of the great American blues musicians. You will be treated to soulful vocals and contagious, upbeat music that will have you up on your feet dancing in the rose garden!  Please join us for this free concert.

Everyone attending the concert will receive a door prize ticket at the event for a chance to win a potted shrub rose and dinner for two!

We can hardly wait!  Over 5,000 classic cars cruising Havana Street in a poker run. There is no charge or fee to participate in the car show or the poker run--It's free!  The cruisers stop at each of the five festival sites to pick up a poker card to complete their poker hand.  The poker run kicks off from each of the festival sites at 2 p.m. and ends at The Stampede festival site at 8 p.m. with the announcement of the prize winners.  Watch for the big Wind Waver Banners that say "Poker Run" at the entrances of each festival site so you know where to turn into the site during the poker run.

Poker Run Prize Alert! This year, the grand prize for the poker run is a 5 day/5 night ocean cruise for two from Cruise Holidays at the Ranch (if the winner does not want to take the cruise, they can opt for $500 cash).   The Poker Run runner up prize is a 50" HDTV courtesy of Havana Auto Parts.  Crappy poker hand?  Don't fret...simply drop you losing poker run registration form off in the Second Chance box at The Stampede site for a chance to win $200 cash!

There is nothing better than locally grown, fresh, organic produce!  The Havana Farmers' Market opens for the season on Monday, June 18, 2012.  The market sets up ever Monday from 10 a.m. - 3 p.m. (or until sold out) in the parking lot at the Havana Exchange Shopping Center.  You will see the vendor tents set up in the lot along the Havana Frontage, south of Yale Ave, and in front of Bicycle Village.

The 112th U.S.Amateur Golf Championship comes to town this summer!  The Host Course is Cherry Hills Country Club and the campanion course is CGA's CommonGround Golf Course located at 1st Avenue & Havana. 

Practice rounds tee off from both courses Saturday and Sunday, August 11 & 12.  The first two rounds of stroke play take place at both courses on Monday and Tuesday, August 13 & 14.  Five days of Match Play take place at Cherry Hills Country Club August 15-19.

We need volunteers for this big national tournament!  Volunteer opportunities include:

• Admissions & Will Call
• Operations
• Parking
• Transportation
• Merchandise Sales

All volunteers are required to purchase volunteer uniforms for $100.  This charge will cover the cost of one 2012 U.S. Amateur embroidered volunteer shirt, a jacket, a cap or visor, and volunteer credentials for the week of the championship.  You may also purchase a second shirt for $25.  Volunteers will receive lunch in the volunteer tent on the days you volunteer. You will also be given a permit for parking throughout the week at Kent Denver.  In appreciation for your service to the 2012 U.S.Amateur, you will receive a gift certificate for a complementary round of golf at CommonGround.  Volunteers will be expected to work a minimum of three shifts but also need to remain flexible since some shifts can run across the am/pm designation or may be affected by weather.

This is our fourth annual community ice cream social.  Free Baskin Robbins ice cream sundaes, Menchie's Frozen Yogurt, Sweet Dream Frozen Yogurt, Good Times Frozen Custard or Freddy's Frozen Custard (while supplies of each last) for the first 300 people in attendance.  No purchase is necessary.

Enjoy an evening of music by the Aurora Symphony Orchestra's Brass Quintet and The Aurora Singers in the rose garden.

This is also our annual fund raiser for the Aurora Symphony. Purchase dinner at Noodles & Company this evening between 5 and 9 p.m. and Noodles will donate 25% of your purchase to the Aurora Symphony.

Come help with our annual rose garden clean up from 9-11 a.m. on Saturday, May 5.  Bring sturdy gloves and a pair of pruning shears if you have them.  Members of The Denver Rose Society will be on hand to instruct you on how to correctly prune shrub roses.  Our summer rose garden concert series starts May 29, so we want the garden to look beautiful for the concert.  

We will meet at the rose garden at 9 a.m.  The clean-up will last until approximately 11 a.m.  Everyone volunteering to help with the garden clean up will receive a voucher for a free lunch.  You will need to sign a waiver at the clean-up to work in the rose garden. 

We will also be looking for volunteers to sign up to prune the roses in the Lisa Strawn Memorial Rose Garden periodically throughout the summer.  This is your chance to really make a difference in the community and learn a new hobby, too.
